DESCRIPTION:Security Service Federal Credit Union will host a free San Antonio area shred day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday\, April 18\, at its 1604 and Bandera branch\, 9253 North Loop 1604 West.\n\n \n\nThe event is designed to assist area residents with the safe and free disposal of unwanted\, personal documents.\n\n \n\n"In this day and age\, everyone should do what they can to protect themselves from identity theft\," said Brandy Ralston-Lint\, vice president of public relations for Security Service Federal Credit Union.  "Free shred days allow folks to permanently and securely get rid of documents containing sensitive information like bank and credit card statements\, old tax returns or documents containing account numbers\, Social Security numbers\, or other identifiable information."\n\n \n\nPeople can drive up and drop off bags and boxes of paper for shredding only. Limit two 18"x20"x12" full boxes per household. Volunteers from Security Service will help with unloading\, and all documents will be shredded on site by Recall.\n\n\n\nThe IRS recommends saving tax returns for at least three years after the date of filing. There are some circumstances when tax documents should be kept longer than three years. Check the IRS website (www.irs.gov) for details.
