DESCRIPTION:SAN ANTONIO (July 30\, 2018)   Mayor Ron Nirenberg on Monday announced that City Council will conduct a public hearing Aug. 8 to gather community input on the proposed paid sick leave ordinance. An alliance of community groups gathered about 144\,000 signatures seeking an ordinance mandating that employers in San Antonio provide paid sick leave to workers.\n\n\n\nCity Clerk Leticia Vacek is expected to announce whether enough valid petition signatures were submitted on Thursday.\n\n\n\n"As a community\, we need to discuss all of the issues surrounding a potential paid sick leave policy at the local level\," said Mayor Nirenberg. "We are inviting every constituency with an interest in the proposed ordinance to voice their opinions to ensure transparency and public discussion of the issue."\n\n\n\nThe Aug. 8 public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. in City Council Chambers\, 114 West Commerce St.\, 78205.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRon Nirenberg\, Mayor\n\n\nNote: The registration link will not appear until 8 AM on Wednesday morning\, Aug 8. Once available\, people may choose to register as individuals or groups. To register as a group\, three names are required\, but any number of people can join those three at the podium in support or to speak. All speakers are asked to state their names for the record. Individuals (not groups) may donate their time to one another provided they are all registered\, up to a maximum of nine minutes. In the event that there are many people registered to speak\, the Mayor has the discretion to reduce the amount of speaking time so we recommend that people organize their remarks accordingly. Online registration is available from 8 AM-5:59 PM. In-person registration is on the first floor of the Municipal Plaza Building\, down the hall from Council Chambers\, from 4-6 PM.
